By now, the problem of plastic is no secret to us as consumers - no matter how much you want to bury your head in the sand, we are at the brink of feeling, and our children feeling, the consequences of our decisions when we choose to purchase unsustainably. One way we can choose to shop for products that are better for the environment is to choose bamboo. Not only can bamboo grow from seed to fully grown and ready for harvest in three to five years (much faster than hardwood trees), but the roots can regenerate into new shoots, and it is robust enough to be recycled into other products, and natural enough to fully biodegrade in landfill!

At the moment, there is no law that says bamboo has to be grown sustainably, so it is also important to look for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification on your bamboo products to make sure your bamboo products are sourced from bamboo that is sustainably grown to affect not just positive environmental change, but positive economical and social change too!
